Steps For Granite Polishing

The following steps describe wet polishing process for granite polishing:

Place and clamp granite slab or tile on a work table secure it firmly using right size clamps. Using masking tape, you may want to mask part of the granite which is being exposed to water. As granite is a porous metamorphic stone, it absorbs water quickly.

Now very carefully inspect the initial state of the granite tile edge surface which is supposed to be polished for the unevenness which happens due to saw cut edge or profiled edge. Unless and until the surface is very smooth and even, it is strongly recommended to always start the polishing process with grit 50. Heavy scratches can be removed using smaller grit sizes (50, 100, 200) and final finish can be obtained using higher grit sizes (1500, 3000). Attach the loop backing pads and rubber hook to the wet polisher while rotating it clockwise at the same time. Before attaching the backing pads, you should be sure enough that it is switched off.



The granite tile is now ready to start polishing. Open the diamond granite polishing kit and initiate the polishing process with grit 50 polishing pad. Attach 50 grits to the Velcro of backing pad and slowly release the water flow for the wet polisher. Start polisher at low rpm and start polishing the granite edge with side-to-side motion, but not more than four or five times. With lower grits, too many changes can grind more than needed which can decrease the value of polishing finish. Use the grinder initially as low speed and as needed and then increase its speed slowly for rapid polishing suitable for specific stone.

After the successful completion of grits 50, move to the very next higher grits 100. After successfully completing the polishing process with small sizes grits 100, 200, you will find a much smooth surface which is free from all saw marks, old sealant or wax.

Make sure that every surface is polished with the previous grit before to moving to a higher grit. Any unpolished area left with lower grit will ultimately result in sub-optimal shine and which in turn will lead to start the polish again with lower grit for the professional finish. A good way to ensure that every single part of the edge is polished is to clean the edge surface with wet cleaning towel, and polish dry. The warmness will vaporize the water where it is already polished. Entire water should be evaporatedbefore performing another round of wet polishing. Now move to the next level of higher grit once the entire surface is polished.

Keep repeating the entire processes with diamond granite polishing kit from lower grits to the higher grit until desired finish is achieved. One should be sure enough that the grits are always gradually used from lower to higher 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 grits.



Use the pads one by one until the polish appears to be accurately shiny Then, remove any debris using vacuum. A good shinewill be achieved at the grit 800, and as you progress to grit 1500 and 3000 you will start getting a mirror like finish.
